April 6

Today I celebrate human connection.

As I was walking north on the beach, I spotted one near-perfect treasure, then another. I had carried them for about half an hour, when I noticed a woman looking through the broken shells near the water.

“Would you like a shell you didn't find?” I asked her, extending the smaller shell.

She looked at it with amazement. “You found that here?”

“Yes,” I replied, extending the second shell. “And this one, too.”

She got teary-eyed. “Are you sure?”

“Very sure.”

“My husband died recently. We'd always wanted to go to Sanibel Island to search for shells like this.”

Wow. Just wow.

Then she asked, “May I give you a hug?” and we embraced.

Then she walked north, and I turned south.

And my heart has been full all morning.
