There are no easy answers, and there are only more questions. How do we learn to become people who have minds and souls at the same time, in the same bodies, in the same persons? How do we avoid fragmenting ourselves so that we read stories of suffering but are insensitive to their meaning? To hear but not care? To see but not respond? That is harder, and because it is, a superficial response to the pedagogy of silence is impossible.
